Promote and Foster Collaboration
For Alberta to become a national player in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, it is imperative that the existing researchers and resources collaborate and work toward a common goal. BioNet seeks to aid this collaboration by:
Providing an up-to-date website with the latest news and information available in Alberta B/CB
Amassing and curating a database of researchers and resources located in Alberta
Acting as an intermediate and matching potential collaborators unknown to one another
Provide Workshops and Training
It is not simply important, but necessary to continue the education and training of Bioinformaticians and Computational Biologists in the province in order to expand capacity. Here we provide a list of tentative workshop topics that we hope to provide in near future:
An introduction to R
Machine Learning in Bioinformatics
Data Storage and Uniform Data Practices
Advanced R Techniques
Act as an Information Hub
In 2018 a survey was conducted to find the areas lacking in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in the province of Alberta. It quickly became clear that there was no underlying online infrastructure or database that clearly provided information on Bioinformatics researchers and resources in this province. From this survey BioNet Alberta was born and we seek to fill this void.
